Malta Lotteries

A national lottery was established as a Maltese government monopoly in 1934 and was run by the Department of Public Lotto. In February 2004, MALTCO Lotteries Limited gained an exclusive license to operate all national lottery games in Malta. The company is currently operating most of the games that were previously operated by the Department of Public Lotto. These games include the Super 5 Lottery, the Lotto, instant lotteries (scratchers) and the recently launched Fixed-Odds Betting UBET.

In 2012, MALTCO was able to renew its lottery license for another 10 years in a competitive bidding process. That concession has since been re tendered; a new 10-year National Lottery license was awarded in 2022, under which the licensee continues to run Lotto, Super 5, instant games and sports-bet products under MGA supervision.
